Ukoha Njoku said the state government has been working out modality for payment with the state’s chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Njoku explained this on Thursday, on his X handle while responding to a tweet by an X user. In reaction, the Chief Press Secretary to Otti assured workers in the state that the new minimum wage will be paid.
He added the state government was also waiting for further clarifications from the federal government on the way forward concerning the new ₦70,000 minimum wage.
“Abia State Government is working closely with NLC leadership to work out modalities for the payment of the new national minimum wage of N70,000 while awaiting further clarifications from the Federal Government on the way forward,” Njoku said.
Recall that Governor Otti, in his monthly media chat tagged, ‘Governor Alex Otti speaks‘, disclosed that a committee had been set to work out the modality of payment of the new minimum wage. The committee comprises NLC and government representatives.
“A committee has already been set up. The Government Team together with the Nigeria Labour Congress is already working. We are not keeping quiet. We are already making progress,” he told newsmen.
