Spanish La Liga Unregisters Two Barcelona Players

Posted by on January 2, 2025 | 12:27 am 0

La Liga have officially unregistered two players associated with FC Barcelona, specifically Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, from their official roster.

This move means that barring any unforeseen circumstances, neither player will be able to participate in competitive matches for the Blaugrana for the remainder of the current La Liga season.

La Liga’s stringent regulations stipulate that a player cannot be registered more than once for the same club within a single season, creating a complex situation for the club and the players involved.

Initially, both Olmo and Victor had been registered by Barcelona under an emergency injury provision. This provision allowed the club to utilize the available salary cap space from defender Andreas Christensen, who was sidelined due to an Achilles tendon injury during the first half of the season.

However, Christensen has now returned to the squad, and his reinstatement to La Liga’s official website has led to complications regarding the registrations of Olmo and Victor.

FC Barcelona have issued a statement maintaining that they followed the appropriate procedures to obtain the registration licenses for both players.

However, as it presently stands, the outcome is that neither Olmo nor Victor is eligible to compete for the Catalan giants for the rest of the season.

As the January transfer window approaches, it is anticipated that Pau Victor may seek a loan move to gain valuable playing time elsewhere. Meanwhile, Dani Olmo is at a crossroads regarding his career, needing to contemplate his next steps and future options in light of the current situation.
