The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-born star Jovan Olafioye following his induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2025.

Olafioye carved out an impressive career in the Canadian Football League (CFL), where he played for almost a decade.

During his eight years with the BC Lions, he lifted the Grey Cup in 2011, earned several All-Star selections, and in 2012 was honoured as the league’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman.

His consistency and leadership made him one of the most respected figures in Canadian football.

“This honour is a source of pride for Nigeria and the Nigerian community worldwide, in addition to being a significant personal accomplishment for Olafioye.

“His induction serves as a testament to the Nigerian diaspora’s expanding influence in a variety of fields, most notably international sports,” Dabiri-Erewa said, according to a statement signed by Gabriel Odu of NiDCOM’s Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit on September 24, 2025.

She added that Olafioye’s story reflects the determination and resilience that Nigerians continue to display on the global stage.

“His accomplishment further demonstrates the ability, tenacity, and resolve of Nigerians making waves around the globe,” she noted.

“His story will inspire young Nigerians and aspiring athletes both domestically and overseas by demonstrating that hard work and perseverance can result in recognition at the top levels of professional sports.”
