Tottenham Hotspur have thrown their full support behind Italian defender Destiny Udogie after he and his family were reportedly targeted in a gun threat incident in north London.

Destiny Udogie, 22, who has been one of the Spurs’ standout performers this season, was said to have been threatened with a firearm in September.

Police later arrested a 31-year-old man linked to the case, though he has since been released on bail while investigations continue.

A club spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that Tottenham are standing firmly behind their player during the ordeal.

“We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so. Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further,” the spokesperson said as quoted by AFP.

According to police reports, officers were called out late on September 6 after a man in his 20s was threatened with a gun in a quiet suburb usually home to Tottenham and Arsenal players.

During the course of the inquiry, it also emerged that another man in his 20s had allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same suspect.

“No injuries were reported in either incident,” a police spokesperson confirmed, adding that the suspect was arrested on September 8 on suspicion of possessing firearms with intent, blackmail, and driving without a licence.

Despite the frightening experience, Udogie showed professionalism, returning to action for Tottenham’s 4-0 Champions League win over Copenhagen on Tuesday night.
