Nigeria’s D’Tigress have risen to 8th place from 12th in the latest FIBA power rankings, thanks to their outstanding performances at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Before the Games, D’Tigress were the lowest-ranked team among the 12 participating nations. However, their impressive showings in the group stage have seen them climb the rankings.
Under the leadership of coach Rena Wakama, D’Tigress finished third in Group B. They secured victories against Australia and Canada, and despite a loss to France, their overall performance has earned them a higher ranking.
The team began their Olympic campaign with a 75-62 win over Australia on July 29, marking their first win at the Olympics since Athens 2004. Although they lost 75-54 to France in their second match, they bounced back with a 79-70 victory over Canada in their final group-stage game.
D’Tigress will now face defending champions the USA, who hold the top position in the rankings, in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, August 7.
