RS Berkane have arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, ahead of their CAF Champions League group match with Rivers United.

The Moroccan side, made up of players, coaches and key officials, touched down at the Victor Attah International Airport on Wednesday night.

Berkane will train at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Thursday at 5pm, giving them their first feel of the pitch before Friday’s showdown.

Both teams head into the match with contrasting fortunes. Rivers United are looking to recover from a 3-0 loss to Pyramids FC, while Berkane opened their group with a confident 3-0 victory over Power Dynamos.

Pyramids and Power Dynamos will face each other in the group’s other match.

Before leaving Morocco, head coach Mouine Chaabani sounded upbeat about his team’s chances in Nigeria. He said the opening win set the right tone and stressed that they wanted to build on it.

“We will travel to Nigeria to face Rivers United with the aim of returning with a positive result, and we hope that it will be an away victory,” he said. “We know it won’t be an easy match, and our goal is to reach the furthest possible point in the CAF Champions League.”

Chaabani also gave an update on two players who picked up minor concerns during their opening game.

“Murabit is experiencing some knee issues; after 15 minutes of play, he started feeling discomfort, but it’s not a serious injury. The same applies to Mehri; his injury is also not worrying, and we will consult the medical staff,” he explained.

Berkane began their journey on Wednesday morning, flying out of Oujda Angad Airport and connecting through Lagos before making the final leg to Uyo. CAF has appointed Senegalese referee Issa Sy to oversee the contest.
