Asake has officially made Nigerian streaming history as his latest project, M$NEY, recorded the biggest opening week streams ever for an album on Spotify Nigeria.
The project pulled an astonishing 42.2 million streams in its first week, setting a brand-new benchmark for the platform in the country. In doing so, M$NEY surpasses the previous record held by Wizkid’s Morayo, which opened with 35.8 million streams.
The achievement further cements Asake’s position as one of the most commercially dominant artists of the streaming era in African music. Over the last few years, the singer has consistently delivered chart-topping projects and culture-shifting records, building one of the strongest fan-driven streaming runs in Nigerian music history.
M$NEY arrived with massive anticipation, and its opening-week performance reflects the intensity of public demand surrounding the project. Across Spotify Nigeria, the album generated overwhelming engagement, with multiple tracks simultaneously dominating playlists, charts, and social media conversations.
Beyond just numbers, the milestone highlights the continued growth of music streaming in Nigeria and the increasing power of Afrobeats audiences globally. Breaking a record previously held by one of the genre’s biggest icons in Wizkid further underlines the scale of Asake’s current momentum.
The 42.2 million-stream debut now stands as the new highest first-week total in NG Spotify history, adding yet another historic achievement to Asake’s rapidly expanding catalog of records and milestones.
