In just four games, Chidera Ejuke has astoundingly dribbled past his opponents 17 times, according to the latest statistical report.
Ejuke, who joined Sevilla from Royal Antwerp after being on loan from CSKA Moscow, signed a three-year deal with the Spanish club as a free agent.
Since his arrival, he has been given opportunities to showcase his talent in almost all of the team’s league matches, except for the game against Las Palmas.
Despite only playing in four out of the first five games this season, the 26-year-old has solidified his position as the top dribbler in the Spanish topflight.
According to ABC, Ejuke’s 17 successful dribbles have surpassed those of well-known players such as Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid, as well as Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal. Mbappé and Yamal have completed 16 dribbles each, while Vinicius has managed 13.
What makes Ejuke’s feat even more remarkable is the comparison of minutes played to successful dribbles. With 265 minutes on the pitch, it can be said that Ejuke has made a successful dribble approximately every 15 minutes of play. In contrast, Mbappé and Yamal have played more minutes (439 and 443, respectively) in over five La Liga games but have not achieved the same number of successful dribbles as Ejuke.
In 2021, Ejuke was ranked as the world’s third-best dribbler by CIES, having completed over 40 take-ons, trailing only Adama Traore and Nahuel Lujan.
Ejuke, who has represented the Super Eagles of Nigeria eight times, was part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where he made two appearances as the Eagles were eliminated in the round of 16 by Tunisia.
Sevilla FC and their fans will undoubtedly hope that Ejuke can maintain this exceptional form in their upcoming match against Deportivo Alavés on Friday.
