Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has expressed his admiration for Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, the D’Tigress, following their historic achievement at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The D’Tigress made history by becoming the first African team, male or female, to reach the quarter-finals of the Olympic basketball tournament.

They secured their place in the last eight with a 79-70 victory over the world number five-ranked Canada in their final group match.

Troost-Ekong, who has been making headlines with PAOK in the Champions League qualifiers, praised the D’Tigress on social media. “Amazing achievement,” he posted on X.com, formerly Twitter. “Let’s go all the way!”

The D’Tigress capitalized on Canadian mistakes, scoring 27 points from turnovers to clinch the win. Their next challenge will be facing the United States in the quarter-finals.

Troost-Ekong, who captained the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has also been impressive for PAOK. He scored the winning goal in their UEFA Champions League qualifier against Borac Banja Luka and contributed to a clean sheet in the second leg to secure PAOK’s progress.
