NLC Confirms FG’s Decision to withdraw Lawsuit against the Organization

The Federal Government’s decision to drop its contempt case against organized labor was confirmed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday.
According to Gistlover, the FG sued the NLC and the TUC after their nationwide protests on Wednesday.
The “notice of consequences of disobedience to order of court” also titled “Form 48,” was filed before the National Industrial Court in Abuja last week.
The unions threatened to go on a nationwide strike in response to the Federal Government’s move, which was not acceptable to organized labor.
However, FG claimed on Monday in a letter sent to the labor unions by their attorney, Femi Falana, that the lawsuit had been dropped because it had been trumped by circumstances.
The National Executive Committee of the NLC decided to take further action if the FG did not withdraw the case, according to NLC President Joe Ajaero, who spoke about the situation on Channels TV on Monday.
He said, “Then the NEC of the NLC rose up, giving up till 14th of August to withdraw such summons for contempt or face real industrial action.
“But equally, this afternoon, the Ministry of Justice through the Solicitor General of the Federation sent a letter to us withdrawing that charge.”
