The Senate on Wednesday confirmed General Christopher Musa (rtd) as the new Minister of Defence for Nigeria.
Naija News reports that Musa was confirmed by the lawmakers after about five hours of grilling, questioning and interrogations by members of the upper legislative chamber.
It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu had nominated Musa for appointment as a replacement for Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned from the position based on health grounds.
During his screening, Musa pledged to carry out a zero-tolerance policy on banditry and terrorism once he assumes office.
He assured Senators that he would deploy firm and decisive strategies to confront the country’s security threats.
The former Chief of Defence Staff stressed that his leadership would not hesitate to apply the full force of the armed forces against criminal elements destabilising communities.
Also, he promised to investigate the withdrawal of military officers before an attack on the Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, Maga, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area in Kebbi State.
The former Chief of Defence Staff said he would set up a committee to investigate the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba.
He also took the opportunity to condemn the capturing and killing of a brigade commander by terrorists in Borno State, affirming that the situation will be investigated.
