President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday convened a meeting with the nation’s security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Naija News reports that the the session is widely believed to be an emergency review triggered by the recent surge in nationwide insecurity.
The high-level engagement occurred less than 24 hours after the resignation of the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru. It also follows a string of mass abductions targeting schoolchildren and worshippers in states including Kwara, Niger, and Kebbi.
The security chiefs in attendance were led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede.
Other key figures present included: Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General W. Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. General Emmanuel Undiandeye; Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi; and Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The focus of the session is expected to be the escalating wave of kidnappings, rural attacks, and bandit operations that have intensified pressure on several states in recent weeks.
