‘No APC Meeting Can Be Summoned Without My Knowledge’

The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, on Thursday, prevented a meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Executive Committee (SEC) from holding in the state.

The Governor declared that as the leader of the APC in the state, he wasn’t aware of any meeting.

Alia who spoke at a press conference at the Government House in Makurdi, added that as the Chief Security Officer of the state, no legitimate meeting can hold without his consent and approval.

Naija News reports the position of the Governor comes as a direct reaction to the SEC meeting of the Benue APC announced by the faction led by Austin Agada.

Governor Alia warned that the said meeting can’t go ahead, adding that there would be consequences if any person or group attempts to disrupt the peace of the State by converging for any unauthorised meeting.

He said: “The last time I checked, I am still the APC leader in the state. No APC meeting can be summoned without my knowledge.

“Not just that, as the Chief Security Officer in the state, I should know when a legitimate gathering is supposed to hold.

“Nigeria is not a lawless state and so is Benue state”.

“Those who think they can undermine the authority of the state must know this and know peace.”

Meanwhile, Police officers and youths have sealed off the APC Secretariat in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.

The closure occurs just ahead of a caucus meeting scheduled for Thursday by the Comrade Austin Agada-led State Working Committee (SEC) of the APC.

In a release, the Benjamin Omakolo-led APC State Working Committee (SWC) has also organized a caucus meeting today in Makurdi to finalize preparations for the upcoming Local Government elections.
