On Monday, Ibe called on the government to clarify the nature of Tinubu’s engagements in France, following a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
The statement mentioned that the President had departed from Abuja to France but was vague about the reasons for the visit, only noting that it was a brief work trip.
However, Ibe insisted that the lack of transparency is concerning, especially in light of the lessons learned from the administration of the late President Musa Yar’Adua.
He emphasized the importance of keeping Nigerians informed about the President’s activities and schedule, given that he is a public servant whose actions are funded by the nation’s resources.
In a post on X, Ibe asked, “Could you kindly elucidate the duration of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to France, or is this engagement open-ended?
“Furthermore, might you provide insight into the nature of the “brief work” being undertaken in France, or is this matter held in secrecy?”
Ibe stressed that transparency is crucial, stating, “Given that the President of Nigeria serves as a public steward funded by the nation’s resources, it is of paramount importance that Nigerians are kept apprised of his travel plans, objectives, and schedules.
“I trust that, having learned from the Yar’Adua experience, we are committed to upholding a higher standard of transparency.”
