Former Super Eagles captain Austine Okocha has emphasized the crucial need for football fans across Nigeria to fully rally behind the newly appointed head coach, Eric Chelle.

Eric Chelle’s appointment has sparked a mixed reaction among supporters and analysts within the Nigerian football community, highlighting the need for unity and encouragement during this transitional phase.

Okocha, known for his illustrious career and contributions to the national team, stressed that backing the Malian coach is essential for him to succeed in his role. During an interview with Lagos Talks FM, Okocha pointed out that the decision to appoint Chelle was made by the NFF, underscoring that the focus now should be on providing him with the resources and backing necessary to implement his vision for the team.

He stated, “We should give him a chance to do his job and must support him and the NFF. If we come together as one, there is a greater chance for us to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

“We all want the team to qualify for the World Cup because we all benefit when they are doing well,” Okocha added.
