Napoli star Victor Osimhen has picked up an ankle injury as the beginning of the 2023-24 Serie A season comes closer, causing the club to sweat over his fitness.
Osimhen was the main driving force for the Partenopei as they strolled to the Scudetto in 2022-23, their first since 1990 during the days of Diego Maradona. The 24-year-old chose to remain at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona despite receiving offers from multiple clubs – including big-spending Saudi side Al-Hilal.
The former Lille man was reported to have suffered a distorting trauma to his right ankle, which caused him to leave the training session abruptly on Tuesday. New manager Rudi Garcia will be hopeful of getting positive news from his medical staff about the striker’s status as they are less than two weeks from their league opener away to Frosinone.
Osimhen will be keen to continue with his devastating form from 2022-23 that saw him win the Capocannoniere and lead Napoli to the Scudetto. The Nigerian international will continue to play a key role for Napoli, and is expected to remain at the club beyond this summer.
