Kevin De Bruyne Won’t Play For Belgium Until 2025

Belgium’s national team captain, Kevin de Bruyne, has requested some time off from international duty to manage his playing time and recover from a recent thigh injury.

Kevin de Bruyne, who has been sidelined for the past four matches due to the injury sustained in Manchester City’s 0-0 Champions League draw against Inter Milan in September, is focused on returning to action in mid-October.

Initially expected to be left out of Belgium’s Nations League squad for upcoming matches against Italy and France due to his injury, De Bruyne has now requested to also miss November’s matches against Italy and Israel. Hence, he can only be available for international football from 2025.

Belgium boss Domenico Tedesco revealed that he had a lengthy conversation with De Bruyne, who expressed the need to take a break from international duty to prioritize his body’s recovery.

Tedesco emphasized that De Bruyne’s decision is influenced by the increasingly demanding schedule, particularly with the Club World Cup adding to the players’ workload.

Despite concerns over the intensified playing schedule, De Bruyne’s commitment to representing his country remains unwavering, as confirmed by Tedesco.

The midfielder’s dedication to continue playing for the national team and his aspirations to compete in the 2026 World Cup highlight his long-term commitment to the country.

“He has an injury, but he is very motivated to continue with the Red Devils and to play the World Cup in 2026,” Tedesco confirmed earlier today, October 4.
