Mikel Obi highlighted the significant investment Arsenal have made—approximately £800 million in the transfer market—since Arteta’s appointment as head coach in December 2019.
Despite this investment, Arteta has yet to clinch the Premier League title during his tenure. He has come close, finishing second twice behind Manchester City in the previous two seasons.
In a recent appearance on the Obi One Podcast, Mikel expressed skepticism about Arsenal’s chances this season, indicating his belief that the title is currently more within Liverpool’s reach.
He stated, “It’s Liverpool’s to lose. While Arsenal has made considerable progress, I’m not confident they will secure the league this season.”
He emphasized that the upcoming season is crucial for Arteta, noting, “If Mikel Arteta doesn’t win the league next season, it may be time for a change for the benefit of the club and its future.”
Currently, Arsenal are in second place in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by six points after 20 games, with Liverpool holding a game in hand.
