Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has offered his scoreline predictions for this weekend’s Premier League fixtures, backing his old club to beat Aston Villa away in the opening match of the round.
Speaking via Sportskeeda, Merson expects a lively contest at Villa Park. Aston Villa have been one of the surprise packages of the season under Unai Emery, but Merson believes the Premier League leaders will have just enough to take the win, predicting Aston Villa 1-2 Arsenal.
He has also tipped Everton to continue their steady run by beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 at Goodison Park, while Newcastle United are backed to claim a convincing 3-0 home victory over Burnley.
Manchester City, who are pushing to close the gap at the top, are predicted to beat Sunderland 2-1. Tottenham Hotspur are seen being held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford, and Bournemouth’s meeting with Chelsea is tipped to end 2-2.
In the late kick-off on Saturday, Merson sees Leeds United and Liverpool cancelling each other out in a 1-1 draw at Elland Road.
Sunday brings Brighton’s home match against West Ham United, where the former England man expects a strong showing from Roberto De Zerbi’s side with a 3-1 scoreline. Fulham are backed to claim a narrow 2–1 win over Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage.
Matchday 15 ends on Monday night as Wolves host Manchester United. With Wolves struggling to find any momentum this season, Merson is expecting a 3-0 win for the visitors.
