Ryan Alebiosu: Interesting Facts About New Super Eagles Prospect

Posted by on December 3, 2025 | 5:03 pm 0

Super Eagles of Nigeria’s provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has thrown up several fresh names, one of such is Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Alebiosu.

Ryan Alebiosu, 23, has been enjoying a bright spell in the Championship, and his recent form has now put him in the frame for a place in the trimmed 28-man AFCON squad expected in the coming days.

Alebiosu’s inclusion comes at a time when the Super Eagles are light in the right-back department. Ola Aina is still working his way back from a hamstring injury, while Benjamin Fredrick is set to miss a long stretch. With those gaps yet to be filled, the Blackburn man has emerged as an exciting option for coach Eric Chelle.

Below are some interesting facts about Ryan Alebiosu

Ryan Alebiosu

He Rose Through Arsenal’s Hale End Academy

Alebiosu joined Arsenal’s well-regarded Hale End academy in 2018. He progressed steadily through the youth sides and trained with the senior squad several times.

Although he never broke into the first team, he gained valuable experience before eventually leaving after the club informed him that he was surplus to requirements.

Eligible For Both Nigeria and England

Born in London to Nigerian parents, Alebiosu qualifies for both countries. He has never represented England at any level. Should he feature for the Super Eagles at the AFCON, he would no longer be able to switch his allegiance.

A Career Spanning Three Countries

Although only 23, Alebiosu has earned experience across England, Scotland and Belgium. His journey has taken him to Crewe Alexandra, Kilmarnock, KV Kortrijk and St Mirren before his recent move to Blackburn Rovers, where he has quickly settled.

Comfortable In Two Positions

While primarily a right-back, Alebiosu is equally capable of playing as a right midfielder. His pace, balance and tidy footwork allow him to slot into either role, which could give Nigeria valuable flexibility during the tournament.
