Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, has hinted that Victor Osimhen could be on Real Madrid’s transfer list ahead of the summer window, with the Spanish champions said to be tracking the Nigerian striker closely.
Oliseh believes Madrid may look to Osimhen as a long-term replacement for Vinicius Junior, whose future at the Bernabéu remains uncertain. The Brazilian winger has not yet signed a new deal, and his current contract runs until the summer of 2027.
Osimhen made a permanent switch to Galatasaray last summer after leaving Napoli. Despite injury setbacks, he has scored six Champions League goals this season and remains one of the most respected forwards in Europe.
Speaking on the Insight Podcast, Oliseh said the possibilities at Madrid have shifted following the arrival of Kylian Mbappé. According to him, Mbappé could slot into the left wing if Vinicius leaves, leaving space for Osimhen to lead the attack.
Oliseh said: “And there’s a lot of talk under the ground about the possibility of Osimhen being a candidate. I am not going to tell you how I got this information, but there’s a lot of talk.”
He added: “Let’s see how this plays out. But when I heard it from a top personality, I was happy for the young man.”
Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray last summer surprised many, as he turned down major offers from the Saudi Pro League in favour of a competitive European project. Galatasaray agreed to cover his wages in a deal that kept the striker in the Champions League spotlight.
Note that no Nigerian-born player has ever featured for Real Madrid’s senior team. Oladimeji Lawal and Mutiu Adepoju only appeared for the club’s B side during their time in Spain.
