Transfer Deadline: Aaron Ramsdale Leaves Arsenal For Southampton

Southampton have completed the signing of Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal for an initial transfer fee of €21 million, with the potential to increase to €29 million based on performance-related add-ons.

Aaron Ramsdale, 26, has signed a four-year contract with Southampton, further strengthening the Premier League club as the 2024 summer transfer window closes tonight, August 30.

Ramsdale joins Southampton as their 16th signing this summer, and his signing adds depth to the squad under manager Russell Martin whose aim is to finish strong in the league this season.

Recall that he lost his first-choice position at Arsenal to David Raya during the 2023-2024 season, prompting his move to Southampton.

Despite limited appearances for Arsenal, Ramsdale was still selected as part of England’s 2024 European Championship squad. His move to Southampton comes after being linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“The sought-after 26-year-old England international has moved to St Mary’s on a four-year contract, further strengthening the options in Russell Martin’s squad ahead of the summer transfer window closing”, a statement from Southampton’s official website reads.

Ramsdale has an impressive track record, having made 89 appearances for Arsenal with 32 clean sheets and a total of 214 club appearances with 54 clean sheets in his career. Additionally, he has earned 5 caps for England, recording 2 clean sheets.
