Romano’s statement came in response to former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi‘s recent comments hinting at the possibility of Victor Osimhen joining Chelsea.
During the summer transfer window, Chelsea made several attempts to sign the 25-year-old striker, presenting him with four different contract offers. However, negotiations ultimately fell through as Chelsea was unable to match Osimhen’s existing salary at Napoli.
Following the breakdown of negotiations, Osimhen secured a season-long loan move to Galatasaray.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano clarified that Osimhen is fully committed to honouring his contract with Galatasaray. He emphasized that the player is focused on respecting and playing for Galatasaray.
Despite the failed summer move, Romano highlighted that Chelsea’s admiration for Osimhen remains unwavering. He said the club respects the complexities involved in negotiations surrounding the player’s financial terms, salary, and contract.
He said, “What I can tell you, and I already told you last weekend, I can repeat this week, is that Chelsea’s appreciation for Victor Osimhen remains absolute.
“Chelsea understands what happened in the final days of August. They understand how complicated the negotiations for the player are in terms of finances, in terms of salary, and terms of contract.
“But Chelsea’s appreciation of Victor Osimhen remains absolutely concrete and absolutely still there.”
