Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi believes Nigeria are poised for a triumphant campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which begins on 21 December and runs until 18 January in Morocco.
Alex Iwobi, who featured in Nigeria’s run to the final earlier this year before losing 2-1 to the Ivory Coast, says the squad have returned stronger and more determined to go one step further.
Speaking to AySuga Channel, the Fulham midfielder said: “We were really close last AFCON, but the only way we can improve on the last AFCON is to win it. We have the players to do it, we believe we can, we just have to prove it.”
His confidence reflects the growing expectation around the Super Eagles, who have been tipped by many to challenge strongly once the tournament kicks off in Morocco.
Meanwhile in Spain, Sevilla forward Jerome Adams Akor has voiced his frustration following their painful 2-0 home defeat to rivals Real Betis in the Seville derby on Sunday.
The result deepened Sevilla’s struggles, marking their fourth loss in five league outings. Despite long spells of dominance under manager Mattias Almeyda, the hosts were undone by wasteful finishing, a problem that has affected them all season.
Akor did not hide his feelings after the match, describing the defeat as a hard one to take.
“We can’t lose like this. It’s not just a defeat, it’s a slap in the face at home,” he told the club’s official website.
“For much of the game, we were in control, we had chances, but they took theirs, and there are no excuses. We have to work hard and keep going.”
