Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has sent a clear message to his star forwards, warning that neither Neymar nor Vinicius Jr will be guaranteed a place in the squad for the 2026 World Cup unless they are fully fit and performing at their peak.

In a recent interview with Esporte Record, Ancelotti emphasised the need for top form, particularly in a team brimming with attacking talent. “There are many very good players, I need to choose players who are at 100%. It’s not just Neymar, it could be Vinicius,” he said.

The Italian manager added that fitness will be the deciding factor for his selections. He said, “If Vinicius is at 90%, I’ll call up another player who is at 100%, because it’s a team with a very high level of competition, especially in attack. In attack, we have many very good players.”

Ancelotti’s remarks highlight the intense competition within the Selecao squad, where several talented forwards are vying for limited spots. Since taking charge last summer, the coach has yet to call up Neymar, who has consequently missed eight international matches.

Vinicius Jr. also faces scrutiny, with his inclusion depending entirely on his physical readiness and consistent performances at club level.

Both Neymar and Vinicius, who have made their names in European club football, will now be under pressure to maintain peak condition and deliver regularly if they hope to feature in Brazil’s plans for the 2026 World Cup.
