Warri Wolves suspended Napoleon following a poor run of form that has seen the Seasiders struggle for consistency this season.
Napoleon’s exit opened the door for Boboye, who is widely respected in the NPFL after stints with Plateau United and Akwa United.
Warri Wolves have picked up just seven points from their first six NPFL matches and will need a quick turnaround to keep pace with rivals. Boboye’s first test is expected to come this weekend when the Seasiders travel to Kano to face Barau FC in a tricky matchday seven clash.
Meanwhile, Rivers United are celebrating progress in the CAF Champions League after edging out FS Les Aigles of DR Congo 1-0 on aggregate. The Pride of Rivers, as they are fondly called, showed composure to secure a second-round ticket.
Technical adviser Finidi George is aware that the road ahead will be far more demanding but believes the team can build on the momentum. “We know it won’t be easy, but we’ll build on this win. The most important thing is that we scaled through this round and can now focus on our next opponent,” Finidi told Sports247.
Rivers United will meet Mozambican champions Black Bulls in the next round. The first leg will be played in Maputo on Friday, October 17, before the decisive return leg in Uyo. A win across both legs would see the Nigerian side qualify for the lucrative group stage.
